 Anambra Government Reaffirms Mega City Drive, Demolishes Scores of Illegal Structures By Ruth Orji  The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the ongoing regeneration drive and restoration of sanity across the state through enforcement exercises and demolition of illegal structures statewide. The exercise was led by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barrister Chijioke Ojukwu, on July 8, in line with the Physical Planning Law of Anambra State. Stating that it is no longer business as usual, the commissioner urged residents to take every notice received from the ministry seriously and comply promptly with planning regulations henceforth. He, however, said several eviction notices had been served but were taken with a pinch of salt, adding that demolitions followed because structures defaced the environment or obstructed pedestrian walkways.  ACTDA Enforces Strict Ban on Highway Crossing in Awka, Introduces ₦20,000 Fine


In a fresh move to improve safety and orderliness within the Anambra State capital, the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) has announced a strict prohibition on pedestrians crossing major highways within the city. 


The agency is urging residents and visitors to use the designated pedestrian bridges to avoid accidents and traffic obstruction.


The announcement highlights a growing concern over the dangerous practice of dashing across busy roads—an act that has led to several avoidable injuries and fatalities in urban areas. 


With the newly constructed and strategically positioned pedestrian bridges available, ACTDA says there is no further justification for unsafe road crossing habits.
