Speaking after the incident, Trump said the officer was hit at close range but avoided serious harm thanks to protective gear.  “One officer was shot but saved by the fact that he was wearing a very good bulletproof vest,” he said, adding that the agent is now recovering and in good spirits. The situation unfolded during the White House Correspondents' Dinner, where attendees were settling in for the evening when gunfire was heard.  Afghanistan pledges cooperation after cross-border attack kills 3 Chinese workers in Tajikistan 

Afghanistan on Friday expressed deep regret and condemned a cross-border attack into Tajikistan that killed three Chinese workers and injured a fourth. Officials described the incident as the work of elements seeking to create chaos and instability in the region. Afghanistan’s foreign ministry said it is committed to full cooperation with Tajikistan, offering information sharing, technical support, and joint assessments to determine the cause of the attack.

Tajik authorities reported that the assault occurred the previous night, carried out from Afghan territory using a drone armed with grenades and firearms. Tajikistan said the attack highlights ongoing security challenges along the border despite efforts to maintain peace and stability. The Chinese Embassy in Tajikistan warned its citizens against traveling to or working in the border region and advised those already there to evacuate promptly. Relations between Afghanistan and Tajikistan have been tense since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in 2021, though recent developments, including the reopening of border markets and a Tajik delegation visiting Kabul, suggest a gradual improvement in ties.
