 Tragedy Averted as 120-Year-Old Ancestral Tree Falls at Obosi Market By Chiedu Okoye A major tragedy was averted at Eke Obosi Market in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State after a 120-year-old ancestral tree collapsed, destroying shops and goods but leaving traders and visitors unharmed. The massive tree, estimated to be about 150 feet tall, fell within the market premises, damaging at least 12 shops and valuable merchandise. Residents and traders described the incident as miraculous, noting that no lives were lost despite the extent of the destruction. The fallen tree held significant cultural importance as a sacred symbol of Eke Obosi Market, which is regarded as a stronghold of the traditions and cultural heritage of the Obosi people. Beyond serving as a centre for commercial activities, the market is also known as a venue for communal traditional rites and ceremonies.  Anambra First Lady hails girls that represented Anambra at the 2025 women in ICT training, for emerging tops at Abuja training


The wife of Anambra State governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has expressed deep joy over the achievements of the girls who represented the state at the 2025 “Women in ICT training organised by the National Information Technology Development Agency in collaboration with the Renewed Hope Initiative.


Mrs Soludo particularly praised Vivian Ebisi, one of the state’s participants who emerged “Best Candidate for the South-East Zone” at the 2025 Women in ICT Training and Empowerment Programme held in Abuja.


In a press statement yesterday, Mrs Soludo, who is also the founder of the “Healthy Living With Nonye Soludo,” thanked Ebisi and other ladies for their remarkable achievements during the training phase of the programme.


She said the programme has offered the girls an inspiring platform to learn and prepare better for the future.


The programme was powered by the National Information Technology Development Agency in collaboration with the Renewed Hope Initiative and provided young Nigerian women with an inspiring platform to acquire digital skills and better prepare for the future.
