Atiku pledges scholarship to viral Niger teen miner Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Sunday said his “heart breaks” each time he watches a viral video of a teenage artisanal miner, Yusuf Aliyu, speaking at a mining site in Niger State after the deaths of 37 miners in the state. Atiku, in a statement posted on his X handle, said he was prepared to support the boy’s education, describing him as a child whose intelligence and confidence should be nurtured in a classroom rather than by working at a mining site. “I have watched Yusuf Aliyu’s video repeatedly, and each time, my heart breaks. A child with such intelligence, clarity and confidence should be in a classroom building his future—not struggling for survival in a community surrounded by gold but buried in poverty. “I cannot look at him and see an ‘illegal miner.’ I see a Nigerian child failed by the country that should have protected him.  Anambra guber: I’m a winner – AAC’s Ifemeludike declares despite 292 votes

The candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, in the just concluded Anambra State governorship election, Chioma Ifemeludike, has described herself as a winner despite losing the election to Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

According to results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, secured 292 votes in the poll.

INEC declared the incumbent governor, Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, winner of the election with 422,664 votes.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Nicholas Ukachukwu, came second with 99,445 votes.

However, in a post shared on her X handle on Sunday, Ifemeludike said her modest tally represented a symbolic victory rooted in principles rather than political machinery.

“Integrity stands firm and higher than political deception. I’m a winner!” she wrote.

Ifemeludike gained significant online attention during the campaign for her unconventional photos and videos.

She said she was satisfied with her performance and noted that her campaign was conducted without malpractice.

She maintained that her participation in the race underscored the importance of sincerity, courage, and clean politics, even in an environment dominated by bigger political parties.
