 The credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voters’ register has come under intense scrutiny ahead of the 2027 general elections, following revelations by INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan that names of deceased persons remain on the register. Amupitan disclosed that names of voters who died as far back as 15 years ago are still listed, a situation critics say could undermine the integrity of the 2027 polls and lead to significant financial waste through the printing of excess ballot papers and other election logistics. The INEC chairman made the revelation while receiving the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abisoye Coker-Odusote, and her management team during a courtesy visit in Abuja on Wednesday.  Catholic Bishop Of Awka Raises Alarm Over Wave Of Kidnapping Of Christian Children, Fears They May Be Used As Human Shield


The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor has raised the alarm over upsurge in kidnapping of children, especially in Catholic schools following classification of Nigeria as a country of particular concern by the United States of American President Donald Trump.


Bishop Ezeokafor observed that persecution of Christians has increased sharply after the classification.


While urging Nigerians to pray for the country Bishop Ezeokafor said he feared that the children being kidnapped by be terrorists and bandits may be used as human shield.

Ezeokafor spoke after Benediction following a successful procession of Christ The King, celebrated by Catholics every year to affirm the Kingship of Jesus Christ.


The procession in which all parishes in Awka metropolis participated ended at St. Patrick Cathedral, Awka.


Speaking to the congregation bishop alleged that the target of Moslems in Nigeria is to Islamise the country and urged Christians to be prayerful and vigilant.


“We must be watchful. We should not say that it has not come to us. Some of our leaders exhibit double standard”, he warned.


He also criticised some religious leaders who he accused of talking from both sides of the mouth noting that “what some ministers of God say is not pleasing. Pray for Nigeria, especially Christians”, he concluded
