 New UK Prime Minister not the leader Britain needs — Kemi Badenoch UK Conservative Party leader, Kemi Badenoch, has congratulated Andy Burnham on becoming Britain’s new prime minister but said while he is “a nice man,” the country needs a leader capable of making difficult decisions rather than “a people pleaser.” In a statement released on Monday on X following Burnham’s assumption of office, Badenoch wished the new prime minister success but vowed to hold his government accountable as Leader of the Opposition. “Today, Britain has a new Prime Minister. I wish Andy Burnham every success. Because we need a Prime Minister and a Government focused on fixing the public’s priorities,” she said. Cortland, NY, students suspended for bringing BB gun to school as Halloween costume prop

 Two students from Cortland Junior Senior High School were suspended Friday morning after one of them brought a BB gun to school as part of a Halloween costume, according to a statement from the district. The weapon was discovered in the student’s possession inside the school, prompting officials to alert police and notify families. The district described the incident as showing an “incredible lack of judgment” and a clear violation of school policy prohibiting weapons of any kind on campus.

Police said the student who brought the BB gun did so because his costume depicted someone who had been shot. Another student, realizing the potential consequences, offered to hide the gun in his backpack for the day. A third student, unsure if the weapon was real, reported the situation to school staff. Authorities quickly located the students, and the BB gun was surrendered without incident. Both students were immediately removed from school grounds and suspended pending a superintendent’s hearing. The district emphasized that the possession of any firearm, including BB guns, is strictly banned under its code of conduct. Police confirmed there were no threats made, and classes continued without disruption.
