 The credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voters’ register has come under intense scrutiny ahead of the 2027 general elections, following revelations by INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan that names of deceased persons remain on the register. Amupitan disclosed that names of voters who died as far back as 15 years ago are still listed, a situation critics say could undermine the integrity of the 2027 polls and lead to significant financial waste through the printing of excess ballot papers and other election logistics. The INEC chairman made the revelation while receiving the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abisoye Coker-Odusote, and her management team during a courtesy visit in Abuja on Wednesday. Rt Hon Dr Chukwuma Pius Okoye, Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, has expressed strong appreciation and support following today’s plenary session, where His Excellency, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill themed Changing Gear 3.0, Solution Continues.


In his address, the Deputy Speaker described the budget presentation as a clear demonstration of renewed commitment to progress, accountability, and purposeful development for Anambra State. He commended Governor Soludo for consistently placing the welfare of Ndi Anambra at the forefront of his leadership, noting that the Governor’s achievements across the state continue to speak for themselves and strengthen public confidence.


Rt Hon Okoye remarked that the vision embedded in the 2026 budget offers hope for deeper transformation in the coming year. He highlighted that under the Governor’s guidance, Anambra is advancing steadily with clear direction, measurable results, and policies driven by dedication, innovation, and sincerity.


According to him, the 2026 budget signals stronger momentum for the Solution agenda and reinforces the state’s path toward sustained growth and renewed optimism.
