 Death toll from Kenyan floods rises to 62, police say A total of 62 people including eight ​children have died since heavy rains ‌and flooding hit Kenya's capital Nairobi and other areas ​late last week, police ​said, Reuters reported. The capital ⁠was the worst hit ​with 33 deaths, the force ​said in a statement on X that updated the official tally ​of casualties. More than ​2,000 families have been displaced across ‌Kenya ⁠and intense rain was continuing in several regions, it added. Aid workers started pulling ​bodies ​from floodwaters ⁠across Nairobi last Saturday after overnight ​flash floods swept away ​dozens ⁠of cars and disrupted flights at East Africa's ⁠biggest ​airport. A tally issued ​last Sunday put the death toll ​at 42.

 Driver arrested after hitting pedestrians in France, interior minister says

 A driver has been taken into custody after allegedly plowing into multiple pedestrians and cyclists in southwestern France, injuring several people, according to Interior Minister Laurent Nunez. The incident occurred along a route connecting the villages of Saint-Pierre and Dolus on the island of Oleron, a small coastal area known for its narrow roads and seaside communities.

Nunez said an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash and confirmed that two victims remain in serious condition, while three others suffered less severe injuries. Authorities have not yet released details about the driver or the vehicle involved. The interior minister added that he is traveling to the scene at the request of the prime minister to oversee the response and coordinate with local officials.
