 Four people have died after a car was swept away at an overflowing bridge in the Makotopong River near Sebayeng. Police recovered the bodies after a blue Renault Kwid carrying five occupants was pulled into the river during heavy water flow on Sunday morning, 8 March 2026. One passenger escaped from the vehicle and alerted police and emergency services. Police say the car was travelling along the Madiga–Makotopong gravel road when it overturned at the flooded bridge and was dragged into the river. The Provincial Search and Rescue team recovered the first body on Sunday. The victim was identified as Lebapa Petrus Mochitele, 27, from Madiga Village. EMS personnel declared him dead at the scene. Search operations resumed on Monday with the SAPS Water Wing Unit, EMS Search and Rescue, the Fire and Rescue Department, and an EMS helicopter.  FG PARTNERS OYO STATE ON DRY PORT DEVELOPMENT


The Federal Government's resolve to make Nigeria a maritime hub has received further boost, with the official handover of Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for 90 hectares of land by the Oyo State Government for Moniya Inland Dry Port development. 


​The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, Olufemi Oloruntola, while receiving the documents on behalf of the Federal Government, describes the gesture as a clear demonstration of partnership and shared vision between the Federal and State Governments to expand economic opportunities through modern trade.


The Permanent Secretary in a statement by the  Ministry's Director, Information and  Public Relations, Anastasia Ogbonna assures that the Moniya Inland Dry Port would be a strategic national project that brings shipping services closer to both importers and exporters, thereby stimulating industrial and agricultural growth across the entire South-West region.


​Oyo State Deputy Governor, Abdul-Raheem Lawal, appreciates the Federal Government for its resolve to develop vital transport infrastructure across the country, reiterating the state’s unwavering commitment to the project.
