 NEMA COORDINATES SAR OPS AT THE SCENE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE INVOLVING A THREE STOREY BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT GUDU AREA OF FCT At about 0945hrs on Saturday 16th May, 2026, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was alerted of a building collapse at Gudu District of FCT.  Critical stakeholders including Federal Fire, FCT Fire, NSCDC, NPF, FRSC and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were activated while a response team of NEMA from the Abuja Operations Office led by the Head of Operations Mr Zakari Abubakar  and operatives from AYA Emergency Response Bay (ERAB) were deployed to the scene for quick response and coordination.  A reinforcement team  from NEMA Headquarters led by the Director Search and Response (DSAR) Air Cdre Bature Usman was also on ground to provide necessary backup and supervision.  Makatu Man Arrested for Brutal Murder of Girlfriend and Attempted Murder of Her Daughter 


South Africa: A 48-year-old male suspect is expected to appear before the Dzanani Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 05 November 2025, in connection with the brutal murder of his 47-year-old girlfriend and the attempted murder of her 16-year-old daughter at Makatu Village in the Siloam policing area under the Vhembe District. The incident occurred on Monday morning, 03 November 2025.  


The suspect was swiftly arrested on Tuesday, 04 November 2025, at Biaba in Makhado during a joint operation conducted by members of the Siloam Detectives and Makhado Police, following intelligence received about his whereabouts.  


It is alleged that the suspect forcefully entered the home of his girlfriend while she was asleep with her children. According to information, the 16-year-old girl woke up to her younger sister’s screams and found her mother being attacked by the suspect, who was known to them. When she tried to intervene, the suspect allegedly stabbed her several times before fleeing the scene.  


Police were called to the scene and discovered the lifeless body of the 47-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds. Her daughter was rushed to a local hospital where she is receiving medical treatment.  


Further investigation revealed that the suspect is a repeat offender, and police investigations are continuing.
