According to local authorities, the incident occurred at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, November 14th.
Reports indicate that the situation began when one driver attempted to pass another on the shoulder of the road.
This led to a verbal altercation that quickly spiralled out of control when 22-year-old Tyler Johns (pictured below) pulled out a firearm. Johns fired a single shot at the other vehicle. Unfortunately, that single shot struck an 11-year-old boy who was simply being driven to school by his stepfather.
At this point, the stepfather rammed Johns vehicle, causing it to stall on the freeway. After the vehicle stalled, the stepfather and Tyler Johns both exited their vehicles, and a heated exchange occurred despite the fact that an 11-year-old boy was fighting for his life.
When first responders arrived on the scene, they desperately attempted life-saving measures on the young boy. Sadly, the boy succumbed to his injuries.
Tyler Johns was arrested and charged with open homicide and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.
This story serves as a stark reminder to keep your cool while driving. This innocent little boy was just trying to go to school and lost his life due to roadrage that he had nothing to do with.
With the holiday season upon us and a dramatic uptick in traveling, please keep this young boy in mind when you begin to feel frustrated with other drivers.
Our thoughts are with the family of the victim.
