 Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years. WhatsApp chats have been encrypted since 2016, and the company began rolling out default encryption for Messenger in 2023.  One Suspect Fatally Injured, Another Detained Following House Robbery Pursuit


Two suspects believed to be involved in a string of house robberies and vehicle thefts in the Centurion and greater Pretoria areas were intercepted during a joint operation on Sunday, 09 November 2025.


Information was received regarding a group of suspects operating in the region, traveling in a white VW Polo. Units were deployed in the Centurion and Monument Park areas to monitor their movements.


The suspects were later spotted driving recklessly from Centurion towards Monument Park. Tactical teams pursued the vehicle, resulting in a high-speed chase. The suspects lost control and collided head-on with a civilian vehicle.


One suspect sustained fatal injuries, while the second was transported to hospital under police guard with serious injuries.


Preliminary investigations revealed the vehicle was stolen and positively linked to a Garsfontein case (CAS /10/2025). Various housebreaking implements, gloves, cellphones, and suspected stolen property were recovered.
