PDP Crisis Escalates: National Chairman Petitions IGP Over Violent Secretariat Invasion by Suspended Secretary

The embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, has formally petitioned Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, accusing suspended National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu of leading a violent invasion of the party's national secretariat in a bid to impose factional leadership.

In the petition dated October 3, Damagum detailed the alleged incident, which occurred on Monday, November 3, 2025. He claimed Anyanwu, mobilized by his personal aides Arthur Bruno, Emmanuel Okoronkwo, and Chidiebere Egwu, stormed the secretariat with armed thugs wielding guns, knives, cutlasses, and sticks.

The group reportedly broke into offices, unleashed violence, fired tear gas, assaulted staff and journalists, and disrupted operations. A female staff member suffocated from the tear gas and required resuscitation, while three others—Mr. Terna Tergba, Mrs. Cecilia Ukwayi, and Innocent Ezekiel—are currently hospitalized for injuries.

Damagum further alleged that the thugs forcibly entered his office in an attempt to install Abdulrahman Mohammed, the suspended Vice Chairman for the North Central zone, as Acting National Chairman. Other suspended officials implicated in the plot include National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade, Deputy Legal Adviser Okechukwu Osuoha, and National Organising Secretary Umaru Bature.

The petition claims the takeover bid was supported by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, intensifying the PDP's internal leadership crisis. Police authorities have yet to comment on the petition.
