 APC PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN COUNCIL PRESS STATEMENT ATIKU MUST EXPLAIN THE LEGAL AND FISCAL BASIS OF HIS PETROL SUBSIDY PROPOSAL At his press conference in Abuja on Friday, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar reiterated his proposed  “production subsidy” for locally refined petrol, which he said would reduce pump prices. He went further to ask President Bola Tinubu to slash the cost of diesel and petrol at the pump. That proposal raises important legal, fiscal and practical questions that he must answer. Section 205(1) of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021 provides that unrestricted free-market conditions shall determine wholesale and retail prices of petroleum products. The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, in a statement on Saturday, explained that it neither fixes pump prices nor issues administrative price templates, except where the statutory conditions for intervention are met.  PRESIDENT TINUBU CONGRATULATES EX-KANO GOVERNOR, IBRAHIM SHEKARAU, ON 70TH BIRTHDAY


President Bola Tinubu congratulates former governor of Kano State, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, on his recent 70th birthday.

 

A statement by Bayo Onanuga Special Adviser to the President, Information and Strategy, says President Tinubu hails Shekarau's consummate public service career, rising from classroom teacher to the position of permanent secretary in Kano State Civil Service, before venturing into politics in the early 2000s.

It adds, President Tinubu recalls Shekarau's phenomenal election as Kano State governor in 2003 and his human-centred approach to governance in the two terms he served as the governor.

 

Shekarau was later to serve as Minister of Education (2014-2015) and as Senator representing the Kano Central constituency (2019-2023).

 

President Tinubu thanks Senator Shekarau for his years of service to the country, as an educator, administrator, and politician.

President Tinubu prayed  Allah to keep the former Kano governor in good health, so that he might continue serving his people and Nigeria.
