 Somali World Cup Referee Denied Entry to United States Award-winning Somali referee, Omar Artan, has been denied entry into the United States despite holding a valid visa, according to a senior official in Somalia’s sports ministry. Artan, who is set to become the first Somali referee to officiate at the FIFA World Cup finals, was stopped at Miami International Airport and subsequently returned to Istanbul, where he had been residing. The reason for the denial was not immediately disclosed. However, Somalia is among the countries affected by a travel ban introduced by the administration of Donald Trump. Reacting to the development, Ciise Aden Abshir, a senior adviser to Somalia’s Ministry of Youth and Sports and a former national team captain, described Artan as one of Africa’s most respected referees. “Omar Artan is among Africa’s most respected referees and deserves the support of the entire football community,” Abshir told AFP on Monday.  PRESIDENT TINUBU CONGRATULATES EX-KANO GOVERNOR, IBRAHIM SHEKARAU, ON 70TH BIRTHDAY


President Bola Tinubu congratulates former governor of Kano State, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, on his recent 70th birthday.

 

A statement by Bayo Onanuga Special Adviser to the President, Information and Strategy, says President Tinubu hails Shekarau's consummate public service career, rising from classroom teacher to the position of permanent secretary in Kano State Civil Service, before venturing into politics in the early 2000s.

It adds, President Tinubu recalls Shekarau's phenomenal election as Kano State governor in 2003 and his human-centred approach to governance in the two terms he served as the governor.

 

Shekarau was later to serve as Minister of Education (2014-2015) and as Senator representing the Kano Central constituency (2019-2023).

 

President Tinubu thanks Senator Shekarau for his years of service to the country, as an educator, administrator, and politician.

President Tinubu prayed  Allah to keep the former Kano governor in good health, so that he might continue serving his people and Nigeria.
