Yemen fighting pushes nearly 3,000 to Djibouti in less than a week: UN    Nearly 3,000 people have fled Yemen for Djibouti in less than a week as escalating violence drives growing displacement within the country and across its borders, the UN refugee agency said Friday. “Refugees continue to arrive by boat through Obock, Khor Angar, Moulhoule and Godoria after difficult journeys in small vessels,” UNHCR representative in Djibouti Sandrine Desamours told reporters in Geneva, Anadolu Agency reported. More than half of those crossing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait are women and children, while some families have been displaced for a second time after previously fleeing Yemen during the 2015 crisis and later returning. UNHCR is preparing for at least 10,000 new arrivals but warned that capacity is rapidly diminishing. President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi Telu I, on the 10th anniversary of his ascension to the throne of his forebears, which falls on November 16, 2025.

 

In a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President, Information & Strategy, "President joins the sons and daughters of Iwoland, as well as friends and associates of the influential monarch, in celebrating this special occasion.

 

President Tinubu notes the tremendous impact and progressive streaks of Oluwo in the past decade of his ascension to the throne.

 

The President particularly highlights Oluwo's unwavering commitment to Yoruba cultural heritage and revival.

 

"Like him or hate him, you can hardly ignore his dynamism and leadership and the fact that his people deeply love him.

 

"I congratulate Oba Telu on this milestone. My thoughts are with him and the people of this great city at this moment," the President remarks.

 

President Tinubu wishes Oba Akanbi many more years on the throne and a continued life of impact.
