 The credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voters’ register has come under intense scrutiny ahead of the 2027 general elections, following revelations by INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan that names of deceased persons remain on the register. Amupitan disclosed that names of voters who died as far back as 15 years ago are still listed, a situation critics say could undermine the integrity of the 2027 polls and lead to significant financial waste through the printing of excess ballot papers and other election logistics. The INEC chairman made the revelation while receiving the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abisoye Coker-Odusote, and her management team during a courtesy visit in Abuja on Wednesday.  Uncle and Grandmother Arrested for Allegedly Poisoning Relative in Lemondokop Village


Police in Limpopo have arrested two suspects, aged 38 and 82, in connection with the murder of their 30-year-old male relative who was allegedly poisoned at Lemondokop Village on Tuesday, 28 October 2025.  


According to preliminary reports, the deceased had complained of severe stomach pains and dizziness before losing consciousness. He was declared dead inside an ambulance while being transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.  


Community members, dissatisfied with the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, reported their suspicions to the police on Friday, 31 October 2025. An inquest case was initially opened while detectives launched a thorough investigation.  


Investigations later revealed that the deceased’s uncle and grandmother were allegedly responsible for poisoning him. Both suspects were traced and arrested. The inquest docket has since been converted to a murder case, and a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.  


The suspects are expected to appear before the Kgapane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 04 November 2025, facing charges of murder.
