 PRESIDENT TINUBU CELEBRATES VICE-PRESIDENT SHETTIMA AT 60   President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Vice President Kashim Shettima on his 60th birthday, describing him as his brother and partner in steering the ship of the Nigeria state.    In a personally signed statement, President Tinubu notes "I rejoice with the Vice President's wife, Nana, children, family and political associates on this important milestone."   He adds, "Kashim is not just a trusted ally or a valued colleague, but also a patriot whose life has been defined by service, commitment and sacrifice for worthy causes."   The President maintains that in celebrating Kashim's birthday, he also celebrates his distinguished banking career and exemplary record of service to Borno State and Nigeria as a whole.   It notes that Shettima's unwavering commitment to the nation's progress and unity is particularly worthy of mention and commends him for his years of dedicated public service, first...

 SENATE MOVES TO BAN ENLISTMENT OF UNDERAGE IN ARMED FORCES

Senate is in the process of repealing and reenacting the Nigeria's Armed Forces act, Part of which makes provision to prohibit enlistment of persons below 18 years in the military.


This is in alignment with Childs right act and international humanitarian standards.


Other proposals in the bill seek extension of protections and rights to non commissioned officers to boost morale and fairness.


The bill sponsored by Senator Abdulaziz Yaradua also seeks to reinforce the President's constitutional authority as commander in chief, and vests the day to day operational command in the Chief of Defence Staff.


When passed and assented to, qualified military lawyers will be able to represent the Armed forces in civil courts.
