 Guinea-Bissau stops vaccine study funded by Trump administration Guinea-Bissau's foreign minister has said his government has stopped a study funded by the Trump administration aiming to evaluate side effects of the life-saving hepatitis B vaccine, including any links to autism. The West African country, one of the region's poorest, has high rates of hepatitis B, and the prospective study had drawn an outcry from scientists and international health bodies because only half the newborns in the trial would get the vaccine at birth. World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus said it was not ethical. Guinea-Bissau last month suspended the trial pending an ethical review. Critics had said it was being used to test theories linking vaccines to autism, long promoted by U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr but contradicted by scientific evidence. UMAHI JOINS GOVERNOR OTTI TO INSPECT CONSTRUCTION OF FEDERAL ROAD THAT ARE IN PARTNERSHIP ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT FOR CONSTRUCTION AND REHABILITATION . (PHOTOS).


 Umahi Joins Governor Otti to inspect Construction of Federal Road that are in partnership Abia State Government for construction and rehabilitation 


The Minister of Works, Senator Engineer David Umahi, CON, on Friday inspected several federal roads that are under construction and rehabilitation in Abia State.


Umahi commended Governor Otti’s proactive approach to fixing dilapidated federal roads, describing him as a leader focused on the needs of his people rather than partisan considerations.


The Governor of Abia expressed his gratefulness to the Minister of Works for the  commendation of his  administration's commitment to infrastructure, and the  collaborative synergy with the Federal Government under the leadership of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. 


Otti mentioned that The  partnership between Federal Government and Abia State Government has already yielded approvals for key Federal roads in Abia State, including:


- Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene Road (flagged off last week)

- Owerrinta-Umuikaa dualization (ongoing)

- Onuimo-Tower Road dualization (ongoing)

- Ohafia-Arochukwu Road (ongoing), and

- The recently completed Omenuko Bridge


The Honourable Minister did not mince words in expressing his expectations, especially to contractors handling critical segments of the road. Otti noted that the people of Abia endured hardship for decades due to bad road and this is why he is fully committed to fixing the roads


"For over a decade, our people endured hardship due to the deplorable state of this corridor. That is why we are fully invested in ensuring that this expressway, and others like it, are completed to the highest standard."


Otti also thank the Honourable Minister for listening to his plea and rescinding the proposed termination of the CCECC contract. With renewed commitment from the contractors, we expect visible progress in the coming weeks.
