Carrick favourite for Man Utd caretaker role Michael Carrick has emerged as favourite to be appointed Manchester United caretaker head coach, according to sources close to the process. Club chiefs are hoping to have an appointment in place for when players return to training on Wednesday. While a final decision is yet to be reached, talks are said to have progressed with the 44-year-old over the position. Carrick previously had a three-game stint as United's temporary boss following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's dismissal in 2021. He won two and drew one of those matches but left after Ralf Rangnick's arrival as interim manager. Solskjaer held face-to-face discussions with the club on Saturday about a return. U.S OFFICIALS SAY IRAN PLANNED TO ASSASSINATE ISRAEL’S AMBASSADOR IN MEXICO . (PHOTO).

US officials say Iran planned to assassinate Israel’s ambassador in Mexico

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reportedly plotted to assassinate Israel’s ambassador to Mexico, Einat Kranz-Neiger, but Mexican security forces foiled the plan last summer, according to U.S. and Israeli officials.

The alleged plot was orchestrated by the IRGC’s Quds Force, specifically its shadowy Unit 11000, which has been linked to previous attempts against Israeli and Jewish targets in Europe and Australia. The operation reportedly began in late 2024 under a Unit 11000 operative who had previously managed Iranian agents throughout Latin America from Iran’s embassy in Venezuela. By the time the plan advanced, the operative had returned to Quds Force headquarters in Tehran. U.S. officials said the plot remained active into the first half of 2025 before being successfully disrupted and no longer poses a current threat.

A U.S. official described the plot as part of a long history of Iranian attempts to target diplomats, journalists, dissidents, and others critical of the regime worldwide. Israel’s Foreign Ministry thanked Mexican authorities for preventing the attack and reaffirmed its commitment to countering Iranian threats globally. Israeli officials emphasized ongoing cooperation with international security and intelligence agencies to safeguard Israeli and Jewish targets. Iran’s mission to the UN declined to comment on the matter.
