Five suspected vandals have been arrested in Benue State after they were caught tampering with a key transmission line belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

According to a statement issued on Thursday, the suspects all from Upu community in Otukpo LGA were apprehended by local vigilantes on November 3 while attacking the Otukpo, Yandev 132kV single-circuit line.

TCN said the men were caught in the act at towers N16 and N17 in ASA 3 community, with the damage stretching across eight additional towers on the same line. Recovered materials, including dismembered tower parts, have been handed over to the Benue State Police Command for investigation and prosecution.

The company noted that the affected section has since been isolated, while power supply has been restored to Yandev, Wukari, Takum, and Kashimbila substations through Apir. The Otukpo substation is currently being back-fed from New Haven.

TCN praised the Otukpo LGA chairman, community leaders, youths, and the vigilante group for their swift action, adding that it would continue to strengthen community collaboration to safeguard critical transmission infrastructure.
