Nicole Kidman recalls the heartbreaking moment she found out her mom died Nicole Kidman has opened up about the heartbreaking moment she learned of her mother Janelle’s death just as she was about to accept a best actress award at the Venice International Film Festival.  The Babygirl star recalled being backstage when she received the news, saying she returned to her room “completely devastated” and unsure how she would move forward without her mother, who had been such a central part of her life. She described the “harrowing” attempt to leave Venice in the middle of the night to return to Australia, only to turn back, overwhelmed and alone.  Director Halina Reijn later read a statement on Kidman’s behalf, dedicating the award to Janelle and acknowledging the collision of art and life in that painful moment. VIN DIESEL EXPECTED TO PREVAIL IN SEXUAL BATTERY LAWSUIT FILED BY FORMER ASSISTANT. (PHOTO).

Vin Diesel expected to prevail in sexual battery lawsuit filed by former assistant

A California Superior Court judge indicated Tuesday that Vin Diesel is likely to win a lawsuit filed by a former assistant who alleges the actor sexually assaulted her in 2010.

In a tentative ruling, Judge Daniel Crowley said the alleged incident took place in Georgia, meaning the plaintiff, Asta Jonasson, cannot pursue the case in California. Jonasson, who worked for Diesel while he was filming Fast Five, claimed in her complaint that Diesel assaulted her in a hotel suite in Atlanta and that she was subsequently fired hours later by Diesel’s sister, who ran his production company.

Jonasson’s 2023 lawsuit accused Diesel of sexual battery, wrongful termination, and violations of California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act. The FEHA claims were previously dismissed in June due to the one-year statute of limitations. Crowley questioned why Jonasson filed in California rather than Georgia, citing the “presumption of extraterritoriality” in his tentative ruling.

Jonasson’s attorney argued there were multiple connections to California, including her residence, Diesel’s residence, and the production company, while Diesel’s attorney contended the alleged crime occurred entirely out of state and should be governed by Georgia law. Crowley said he would issue a final ruling within a week.

Jonasson’s team said they may appeal depending on the court’s decision, while Diesel’s attorneys expressed optimism about concluding the case.
