I'M NOT JUST A MEMBER OF THE APC. I'M THE NO. 1 IN RIVERS STATE. I'VE COLLECTED MY REGISTRATION CARD, AND IT READS '001' - GOVERNOR FUBARA DECLARES HIMSELF THE LEADER OF APC IN RIVERS STATE. (VIDEO/PHOTO)

Rivers state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, who officially dumped the PDP earlier this week, received his APC membership card on today, Friday December 12 2025, during a brief ceremony held at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

The card was handed to him by the Rivers APC Chairman, Chief Tony Okocha.

Fubara has defended his dramatic defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) saying that the move was driven by a need to align the state with President Bola Tinubu’s political interests and ensure 'stability in governance'.

Describing his crossover to the ruling party as a 'spiritual assignment,' Fubara said that Rivers State could not afford to 'move in a different direction' from the President.

"We cannot pursue a different direction when the President is pursuing another. Joining the APC is part of our commitment to ensure a seamless working relationship and to contribute meaningfully to his re-election efforts in the state," the governor declared.

According to him, defecting to the APC was necessary to 'safeguard the state’s progress,' deepen cooperation with the federal government, and unlock development opportunities for Rivers people.

Fubara, who has been locked in a prolonged political battle with his predecessor and former ally, Nyesom Wike, insisted that aligning with Tinubu was the surest path 'to secure the future of the state.'

Thanking APC leaders for welcoming him, he pledged to consolidate the party’s structures and keep it 'active and fully functional' ahead of the 2027 elections.

"This is now your home, Mr Chairman. We will keep the APC active and fully functional in Rivers State, and every need of the party will be taken care of," Fubara assured.
