Jen Shah, Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star freed from prison ahead of schedule

Former "Real Housewives of Salt Lake City" star Jen Shah has been released from federal prison more than four years ahead of her 6.5-year sentence, a spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed Wednesday. Shah has been transferred from the Federal Prison Camp in Texas to community confinement under Bureau of Prisons supervision, either in home confinement or a halfway house, though officials did not specify the exact location for privacy and safety reasons.

Shah was arrested in March 2021 during the filming of Bravo’s reality series in connection with a nationwide telemarketing fraud scheme. Despite asserting her innocence on the show, she pleaded guilty to wire fraud in 2022. In 2023, she was sentenced to 78 months in prison and ordered to forfeit $6.5 million, along with luxury items as restitution. During her time in prison, Shah was housed at the same Texas facility as Elizabeth Holmes and Ghislaine Maxwell. Her release date had been moved up multiple times, with news of her Dec. 10 release reported last month.

Although popular on Bravo, Shah is not expected to return to "Real Housewives of Salt Lake City." Executive producer Andy Cohen commented that while she may appear on another reality show, it is unlikely to be a Bravo project. Shah joins a long list of Bravo stars who have faced legal issues, including Teresa and Joe Giudice of "Real Housewives of New Jersey," Tom Girardi of "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," and Karen Huger of "Real Housewives of Potomac," among others who have faced arrests or prison sentences.
