TWO DROWNED IN DAMATURU EARLY MORNING DOWNPOUR The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has confirmed that two people drowned in Damaturu, the state capital, following an early morning downpour. The victims have been identified as 38-year-old Isa Haruna and 18-year-old Abba Kyari. According to SEMA, the tragic incidents occurred in the Malam Matari and Pompomari areas of Damaturu. The agency said its Search and Rescue Team, working in collaboration with the Yobe State Fire Service, responded promptly after receiving distress alerts. However, upon arrival at the affected locations, rescue officials found that both victims had already died. Their remains were evacuated and transported to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Yobe State Specialist Hospital, Damaturu. SEMA has urged residents, particularly those living in flood-prone communities, to exercise caution during heavy rainfall and to avoid attempting to cross flooded roads or drainage channels.  Rooiberg Suspect Remanded in Custody for Possession of Suspected Stolen Property


A 29-year-old man arrested for possession of suspected stolen property appeared before the Rooiberg Periodic Court on Monday, 1 December 2025. He was remanded in custody until Thursday, 4 December 2025, when he is expected to apply for bail.


The suspect, identified as Thomas Masevedze, was arrested in the early hours of Saturday, 29 November 2025. Police on patrol in the Waterberg District received information about a suspicious vehicle travelling along the D928 Road at around 00:20. Officers immediately followed up, located the vehicle, and brought it to a stop.


During the search, police discovered railway tracks, copper pipes, and copper wire inside the vehicle. The items are believed to have been stolen. Masevedze was then arrested and taken to Rooiberg SAPS for processing.


Police investigations are continuing to determine the origin of the recovered items and whether the suspect may be linked to other infrastructure theft cases.
