 APC PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN COUNCIL PRESS STATEMENT ATIKU MUST EXPLAIN THE LEGAL AND FISCAL BASIS OF HIS PETROL SUBSIDY PROPOSAL At his press conference in Abuja on Friday, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar reiterated his proposed  “production subsidy” for locally refined petrol, which he said would reduce pump prices. He went further to ask President Bola Tinubu to slash the cost of diesel and petrol at the pump. That proposal raises important legal, fiscal and practical questions that he must answer. Section 205(1) of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021 provides that unrestricted free-market conditions shall determine wholesale and retail prices of petroleum products. The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, in a statement on Saturday, explained that it neither fixes pump prices nor issues administrative price templates, except where the statutory conditions for intervention are met.  Son Arrested for Raping his Own Mother


 Watervaal police arrested a 28-year-old man for raping, kidnapping and intimidating his mother at Magangeni village in Watervaal.


 According to the preliminary reports, the suspect came home and started demanding money from his mother on Saturday, 13 December 2025 and she responded that she had no cash.


 The suspect apparently became aggressive and the mother has medical condition. The suspect allegedly insulted, attacked and suddenly raped her.


 The victim tried to resist, but she was overpowered. After the alleged rape ordeal, he locked the victim inside the house and left.


 The victim managed to get assistance from members of the community who unlocked the house and freed her. She then informed the police about the incident and a rape case was registered at Watervaal SAPS.


 The suspect was arrested in the early hours of Monday, 15 December 2025. He will appear before Watervaal Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 17 December 2025, for rape, intimidation, and kidnapping.
