 NEMA COORDINATES SAR OPS AT THE SCENE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE INVOLVING A THREE STOREY BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT GUDU AREA OF FCT At about 0945hrs on Saturday 16th May, 2026, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was alerted of a building collapse at Gudu District of FCT.  Critical stakeholders including Federal Fire, FCT Fire, NSCDC, NPF, FRSC and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were activated while a response team of NEMA from the Abuja Operations Office led by the Head of Operations Mr Zakari Abubakar  and operatives from AYA Emergency Response Bay (ERAB) were deployed to the scene for quick response and coordination.  A reinforcement team  from NEMA Headquarters led by the Director Search and Response (DSAR) Air Cdre Bature Usman was also on ground to provide necessary backup and supervision.  Son Arrested for Raping his Own Mother


 Watervaal police arrested a 28-year-old man for raping, kidnapping and intimidating his mother at Magangeni village in Watervaal.


 According to the preliminary reports, the suspect came home and started demanding money from his mother on Saturday, 13 December 2025 and she responded that she had no cash.


 The suspect apparently became aggressive and the mother has medical condition. The suspect allegedly insulted, attacked and suddenly raped her.


 The victim tried to resist, but she was overpowered. After the alleged rape ordeal, he locked the victim inside the house and left.


 The victim managed to get assistance from members of the community who unlocked the house and freed her. She then informed the police about the incident and a rape case was registered at Watervaal SAPS.


 The suspect was arrested in the early hours of Monday, 15 December 2025. He will appear before Watervaal Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 17 December 2025, for rape, intimidation, and kidnapping.
