 The credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voters’ register has come under intense scrutiny ahead of the 2027 general elections, following revelations by INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan that names of deceased persons remain on the register. Amupitan disclosed that names of voters who died as far back as 15 years ago are still listed, a situation critics say could undermine the integrity of the 2027 polls and lead to significant financial waste through the printing of excess ballot papers and other election logistics. The INEC chairman made the revelation while receiving the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abisoye Coker-Odusote, and her management team during a courtesy visit in Abuja on Wednesday.  TOR TIV APPOINTS 19 VASSAL KINGS NATIONWIDE TO REPRESENT TIV THRONE

The Paramount Ruler of the Tiv Nation, His Royal Majesty, the Tor Tiv, Prof. James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, CFR, has appointed nineteen Uter (Vassal Kings) across Nigeria to serve as official emissaries of the Tiv throne in their respective states.


The investiture ceremony took place on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at the Tor Tiv Palace in Gboko. During the event, the monarch presented Certificates of Appointment and Letters of Introduction to facilitate formal recognition by government institutions, traditional councils, and security agencies nationwide.


Designated as second-grade traditional rulers, the newly appointed Uter are tasked with promoting Tiv culture, strengthening unity among Tiv communities in the diaspora, and serving as credible links between the Tiv traditional institution and state authorities where they reside.

Addressing the appointees, the Tor Tiv charged them to be worthy ambassadors of the Tiv people, uphold cultural values, and work for peace, unity, and inclusiveness wherever they serve.


The appointments underscore the Tiv traditional institution’s commitment to strengthening cohesion among Tiv communities nationwide and deepening engagement with host states through recognized traditional leadership.
