"Better off dead"
A 14-year-old Louisiana Boy sadly ended his own life a week before Christmas. His passing is being investigated after claims of extreme bullying surface.
A criminal investigation has been launched into the death of 14-year-old Gavyn Cunningham.
According to the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff, Jeff Travis, they usually don't open criminal investigations into s****de, but this case is different.
According to the sheriff's office, they have received tips through the Crime Stoppers tip line alleging Gavyn was subjected to extreme bullying before taking his life.
Gavyn was a student at East Feliciana Middle School, where he was ruthlessly mocked and bullied.
One of Gavyn's classmates is working with deputies but is asking to remain anonymous for fear of retribution.
According to his classmate, Gavyn went to school staff multiple times but was always told he was lying about the bullying. He claims nothing was ever done for Gavyn.
He said that on many days Gavyn would sit alone on the school bus crying due to the way he was treated at school.
According to the sheriff's office, students referred to Gavyn as "sped," which was short for special education. He was also told he would be "better off dead."
All of this is heartbreaking.
Finally, something inside of this poor child happened, and he made the ultimate decision to end his own life.
The sheriff's office will be conducting interviews with students at East Feliciana Middle School to determine if Gavyn was pushed into taking his own life.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Gavyn Cunningham. We hope Gavyn gets the justice he deserves.
May sweet Gavyn rest in peace. I personally hope if the extreme bullying did occur, the students and staff are held responsible for their inactions or actions.
This should NEVER happen.
We will update this story.
