Anambra International Cargo Airport Records 8,624 Flights Since December 2021

The Anambra International Cargo Airport, commissioned on the 7th of December, 2021, by former Governor Willie Obiano, has continued to provide Ndi Anambra with the services they require.

Since it began operations, the airport has recorded 8,624 flights, both commercial and private, and over 600,000 passengers.

A chat with the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the airport, Mr. Martin Nwafor, revealed that the airport records more activities during peak seasons such as Christmas.

According to Mr. Nwafor, the present administration in the state, under the leadership of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has done a lot to upgrade the airport from what it used to be, as he noted that the fire service unit, which was not completed initially, has now been completed with three brand-new fire trucks.

He added that Governor Soludo has also replaced the lights that were vandalised, which he said has enabled night flights, provided a water truck, and carried out several other renovations that helped upgrade the airport to from Category Five to Category Seven, while efforts are ongoing to attain Category Nine status this year, alongside achieving full cargo operations.

The Airport MD also appealed to the Governor to help provide a ceiling inside the airport terminal to enable them to make use of the Departure Hall, explaining that they are currently using a makeshift departure hall due to excessive heat in the main hall caused by a lack of roof insulation, which makes it difficult for the standing air conditioners in the hall to cool the space.

He called on Ndi Anambra, whom he described as largely business-oriented, to make use of the airport provided and maintained for their benefit by the state government, wondering why the state would have such a facility while the majority of its citizens patronise airports in other states, thereby boosting other states’ revenue and improving their infrastructure.

Some of the passengers who boarded the flight from Abuja, Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu and Nonso Orakwe, spoke highly of the services they received, praising Governor Willie Obiano for constructing the airport and Governor Soludo for maintaining it for the welfare of Ndi Anambra.
