 Anambra Government Reaffirms Mega City Drive, Demolishes Scores of Illegal Structures By Ruth Orji  The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the ongoing regeneration drive and restoration of sanity across the state through enforcement exercises and demolition of illegal structures statewide. The exercise was led by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barrister Chijioke Ojukwu, on July 8, in line with the Physical Planning Law of Anambra State. Stating that it is no longer business as usual, the commissioner urged residents to take every notice received from the ministry seriously and comply promptly with planning regulations henceforth. He, however, said several eviction notices had been served but were taken with a pinch of salt, adding that demolitions followed because structures defaced the environment or obstructed pedestrian walkways.  ANAMBRA POLICE OUTLINE STAGES OF SECURITY CONCERNS LEADING TO STATE GOVERNMENT CORRECTIVE MEASURES; SAYS POLICE ARE NOT THE ENEMY BUT THOSE WHO SEEK TO INFLICT SUFFERING ON THE PEOPLE


The Anambra State Police Command wishes to explain the security concerns stages that led to the corrective measures recently taken by the Anambra State Government to enhance safety and security in the State, particularly the efforts aimed at discouraging the illegal Sit-at-Home and closure of markets on Mondays.


The Command notes that the first stage of addressing the security challenges occurred when criminal elements launched attacks on security operatives and destroyed government facilities in an attempt to instil fear in the residents of Anambra State. Despite these attacks and the prevailing conspiracy of silence, in which residents initially feared volunteering information, the security forces remained resolute and demonstrated courage and professionalism.


A positive shift in public attitude marked the second stage, as residents gradually became bolder and began to assist the Police and other security agencies by providing useful information to aid operations.


In the third stage, residents went beyond volunteering information and showed a stronger commitment by actively supporting the Police in identifying and apprehending criminal elements within their communities through the launch of Operation Udo ga achi. 


Currently, the Anambra State Government, in collaboration with Ndi Anambra, has resolved to correct harmful practices arising from security concerns, including the illegal Sit-at-Home order and closure of markets on Mondays.


The Anambra State Police Command, on behalf of all security agencies in the State, assures the public of its continued commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace and security across the State.
