 Court Jails Two for N14.8m Fraud in Maiduguri Justice B.T Zannah of the Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri, on Monday, July 13, 2026 convicted and sentenced two to three years imprisonment. The convicts are: Babagana Bukar and Hauwa Chabri.  The convicts were arraigned on Monday, July 13, 2026 by the Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a separate one -count charge for the offence of criminal misappropriation to the tune of N14,800,000.00 (Fourteen  Million, Eight Hundred Thousand Naira). The charge against Bukar reads: "That you, Babagana Bukar sometimes in 2025 at Maiduguri, Borno State within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, dishonestly misappropriated and converted to your own use the aggregate sum of N8,800,000.00 (Eight Million, Eight Hundred Thousand Naira)  money belonging to Bunu Gambo Liman, being amount given to you through Babakura Umar and Bello Adamu for the supplies of 100 bags of IRS...

 ANAMBRA SECURITY: POLICE RECOVERS SUSPECTED ABANDONED VEHICLE AND ARRESTS SUSPECTED CULTISTS IN ANAMBRA STATE


The implementation of the 2026 rigid strategic operational positioning of the Anambra State Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc mnips PhD for personnel to improve security and sustain Safety across the State, has started yielding positive development. This follows the recovery of a suspected stolen abandoned vehicle in Akuzo Nkpor and arrest of four suspected cultists terrorising Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area. 


In the early hours of 25th January 2025, Operatives of the Special Anti-Cult Squad attached to Obosi Sector in collaboration with a vigilante team from Akuzo Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, during their patrol accosted a green coloured Honda Pilot Jeep with registration number KSF 671 BG, suspiciously parked within the area.


A thorough search was conducted, during which blood stains were observed inside the vehicle. Consequently, the vehicle was recovered, and necessary inquiry is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.


In another development, in the late evening of the same day, the Operatives acting on credible information arrested four suspected cultists in the Nkpor community.  The suspects include, Hampo Chidiebere, male, 20 years, Chinonso Edeh, male, 22 years, Chinedu Agu, male, 21 years and Abuchi Anigbogu, male, 18 years respectively.


During interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of the Barger Confraternity, a cult group alleged to be terrorising the Nkpor community and its environs.


To this end, the Operatives has intensified efforts aimed at arresting other members of the group and recovery  of their operational weapons.


The Anambra State Police Command assures the public of its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property across the State.
