 APC PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN COUNCIL PRESS STATEMENT ATIKU MUST EXPLAIN THE LEGAL AND FISCAL BASIS OF HIS PETROL SUBSIDY PROPOSAL At his press conference in Abuja on Friday, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar reiterated his proposed  “production subsidy” for locally refined petrol, which he said would reduce pump prices. He went further to ask President Bola Tinubu to slash the cost of diesel and petrol at the pump. That proposal raises important legal, fiscal and practical questions that he must answer. Section 205(1) of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021 provides that unrestricted free-market conditions shall determine wholesale and retail prices of petroleum products. The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, in a statement on Saturday, explained that it neither fixes pump prices nor issues administrative price templates, except where the statutory conditions for intervention are met. CAR THEFT: Police Thwart Criminal Theft Attempt of a Toyota Hilux Vehicle Within Bauchi Metropolitan. 


On 5th January, 2026 at about 0630hrs, one Buhari Musa Umar, a member of Bauchi Emirate Council reported to a patrol team drafted at Jos road roundabout Bauchi that an unknown person stole the Emirate's Toyota Hilux parked in Inkiya Filling Station to buy fuel and headed to unknown destination. 


The driver narrated that, he was heading to Ganjuwa LGA of the State to disburse Emir's messages when he was excused to ease himself. Unfortunately, an unknown individual stole the Hilux to an unknown destination. 


Upon receipt of the report, the patrol team quickly chased the suspect, recovered the stolen vehicle around Bayan Gari area and arrested the suspect. 


During interrogation, the suspect confessed to having committed the alleged criminal offence. 


Investigation is still on, after which the suspect will be profiled and charged to court upon its completion.
