 NEMA COORDINATES SAR OPS AT THE SCENE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE INVOLVING A THREE STOREY BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT GUDU AREA OF FCT At about 0945hrs on Saturday 16th May, 2026, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was alerted of a building collapse at Gudu District of FCT.  Critical stakeholders including Federal Fire, FCT Fire, NSCDC, NPF, FRSC and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were activated while a response team of NEMA from the Abuja Operations Office led by the Head of Operations Mr Zakari Abubakar  and operatives from AYA Emergency Response Bay (ERAB) were deployed to the scene for quick response and coordination.  A reinforcement team  from NEMA Headquarters led by the Director Search and Response (DSAR) Air Cdre Bature Usman was also on ground to provide necessary backup and supervision. CARJACKER ARRESTED, THREE HIJACKED VEHICLES RECOVERED. (PHOTOS).


 Carjacker Arrested, Three Hijacked Vehicles Recovered


 A white Toyota Hilux double cab was hijacked on 07 January 2026 at Mavambe Village in Malamulele. Two unknown suspects, one allegedly armed with a firearm, accosted the victims and abandoned them in nearby bushes.


 Acting on intelligence, police traced the hijacked vehicle to Mbhalati Village. During a police chase, the suspect allegedly fired shots at officers, lost control of the vehicle, abandoned it and fled into nearby bushes. The Toyota Hilux was successfully recovered.


Police later received information regarding two other hijacked vehicles reported at Hlanganani SAPS. A silver-grey VW Polo Vivo was found abandoned at Malamulele Section B. A Kia Rio was also spotted in the same area; a chase followed, and the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Both vehicles were recovered and processed by Giyani Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC).


 In a follow-up operation on 08 January 2026 at about 06h20, police arrested a 43-year-old suspect at a local hospital where he was admitted with a gunshot wound.


 The suspect was identified as being involved in the earlier shoot-out and was found using false identification. A firearm holster was found in his possession.


 The suspect faces charges of Attempted Murder, Pointing of a Firearm, and Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle.
