Somali World Cup Referee Denied Entry to United States Award-winning Somali referee, Omar Artan, has been denied entry into the United States despite holding a valid visa, according to a senior official in Somalia’s sports ministry. Artan, who is set to become the first Somali referee to officiate at the FIFA World Cup finals, was stopped at Miami International Airport and subsequently returned to Istanbul, where he had been residing. The reason for the denial was not immediately disclosed. However, Somalia is among the countries affected by a travel ban introduced by the administration of Donald Trump. Reacting to the development, Ciise Aden Abshir, a senior adviser to Somalia’s Ministry of Youth and Sports and a former national team captain, described Artan as one of Africa’s most respected referees. “Omar Artan is among Africa’s most respected referees and deserves the support of the entire football community,” Abshir told AFP on Monday. DELTA STATE POLICE COMMAND FOILS PLANNED KIDNAP, AND RECOVERS  ONE (1) FNC RIFLE WITH ONE (1) ROUND OF LIVE AMMUNITION, ONE (1) PUMP-ACTION GUN WITH THIRTY-THREE (33) ROUNDS OF LIVE CARTRIDGES

The Delta State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to curb kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes across the State, following the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and other incriminating items by operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT).

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of CP-SAT received information that about six (6) suspected kidnappers were sighted at a bush path along the Upper Agbarho area. Consequently, at about 2135 hours on 11th January 2026, the operatives led by ASP Julius Robinson, in collaboration with the community vigilantes, carried out a well-coordinated covert operation and cordoned off the criminal hideout located in an uncompleted building within the area.

Upon sighting the police operatives, the suspects opened fire. However, the operatives responded with superior firepower, forcing the hoodlums to flee the scene with varying degrees of injuries, abandoning their arms and other items. Exhibits recovered include: One (1) FNC rifle loaded with one (1) round of live ammunition, One (1) pump-action gun with thirty-two (32) rounds of live cartridges. All exhibits have been recovered and taken into custody. A manhunt has since been launched to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Aina Adesola, commended the operatives of CP-SAT for their braveness and effective use of intelligence, reiterating that the Command remains resolute in denying criminal elements the space to operate and warning that Delta State will continue to be hostile to all forms of criminality.
