 Court Jails Two for N14.8m Fraud in Maiduguri Justice B.T Zannah of the Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri, on Monday, July 13, 2026 convicted and sentenced two to three years imprisonment. The convicts are: Babagana Bukar and Hauwa Chabri.  The convicts were arraigned on Monday, July 13, 2026 by the Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a separate one -count charge for the offence of criminal misappropriation to the tune of N14,800,000.00 (Fourteen  Million, Eight Hundred Thousand Naira). The charge against Bukar reads: "That you, Babagana Bukar sometimes in 2025 at Maiduguri, Borno State within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, dishonestly misappropriated and converted to your own use the aggregate sum of N8,800,000.00 (Eight Million, Eight Hundred Thousand Naira)  money belonging to Bunu Gambo Liman, being amount given to you through Babakura Umar and Bello Adamu for the supplies of 100 bags of IRS...

 DEPUTY SPEAKER KALU COMMENDS PRESIDENT TINUBU'S ECONOMIC REFORMS, URGES SOUTH-EAST TO TAKE THE ADVANTAGE


The deputy speaker of the house of representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as courageous economic reforms aimed at stabilizing the nation’s economy.


Kalu said the reforms, though challenging, were necessary steps to reposition the economy and restore confidence in Nigeria’s financial system.


Ifeoma Ndu-Okolie reports that At a media chat in his country home in Bende LGA of Abia state, Rt. Hon. Kalu described the bold step by  president Bola Ahmed Tinubu towards repositioning the economy as courageous .


The reforms he noted were necessary to strengthen the economy and attract investments, calling on igbos to seize the opportunities created by the policies and contribute to economic growth.


The law maker stressed that governance should not be seen as a competition but a collaborative effort, adding that they should be allowed to execute intervention projects for the benefit of their constituents.


He called on the Abia state government to work in synergy with federal lawmakers to attract more federal projects and fast-track development in the state.


Rt. Hon. Kalu also explained that his earlier call on governor alex otti to join the all progressives congress was borne out of genuine concern for the development of abia state.


The media parley ended with the lawmaker advising journalist to always report facts and concentrate more on other aspects of the economy apart from politics.
