 DON'T BLOCK THE WAY: Why Obstructing Public Roads Must Be Discouraged By Bonaventure Alufo  For many residents of Anambra State, a journey that should take just 15 minutes often stretches into hours, especially during the morning and evening rush. While population growth contributes to traffic congestion, another major cause is the increasing encroachment on public roads, setbacks and drainage channels by illegal structures. Across major cities in the state, buildings, fences, kiosks and other developments have gradually taken over spaces meant for public access and infrastructure. Some property owners extend their fences into road corridors, while others erect structures on drainage channels, creating obstacles that hinder movement and violate urban planning regulations.  Dubai-based group develops 200 MW thermal power plant in Burkina Faso


Dubai-based industrial group Mark Cables has developed a 200 MW thermal power plant project in Burkina Faso, it said on Monday, Reuters reported.


The company, which operates primarily across Africa, said in a statement it had completed the estimated 180 million euro ($213 million) project in just six months.


According to World Bank data, only around a fifth of Burkina Faso's population has access to electricity, with the country relying on imports from coastal West African states.


"By providing 200 MW of additional capacity, Mark Cables offers a concrete solution to the national electricity deficit," the statement said, adding that it would support the government's efforts to stabilise the grid and reduce dependence on energy imports.
