 TEAM LAGOS EMERGES TOP AT 23RD NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL SOUTH WEST ELIMINATION Lagos State athletes proved their dominance in the South West by edging out regional competitors and emerging top in the five team events contested at the elimination series qualifier for the 23rd National Sports Festival later this year in Enugu. The elimination series featured team events in volleyball, basketball, football, beach volleyball, and cricket in male and female categories. While the team clinched only the female football ticket by topping their group, they showed dominance in three other sports by winning both the male and female tickets. Team Lagos took first position in the volleyball male and female categories. The male team defeated their counterparts from Ondo in the finals by 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-20, while the female team defeated Team Oyo by 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, and 15-8.  Fubara, Deputy make first public appearance amid fresh Impeachment threat


Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Sunday attended a special church service to commemorate the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church, Port Harcourt.


The governor was accompanied by his Deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, alongside other senior government officials.


The service marked the first public outing of Governor Fubara and his Deputy since the Rivers State House of Assembly initiated fresh impeachment proceedings against the governor on Thursday.


This latest development represents the third impeachment attempt against Governor Fubara in less than three years, further heightening political tension in the state.


The Armed Forces Remembrance Day service was held in honour of Nigerian servicemen and women who lost their lives in the line of duty while defending the nation’s unity and sovereignty.


Prayers were also offered for the repose of the souls of the fallen heroes and for the safety and protection of those currently serving in the armed forces.


Despite the renewed political pressure, Governor Fubara and members of his administration have remained silent on the allegations of gross misconduct leveled against them by the State House of Assembly.
