GOV. OTTI'S ADMINISTRATION HAS REQUESTED THE FEDERAL MINISTRY OF WORKS TO MAP OUT A STRATEGY THAT WILL COMPEL THE CONTRACTORS HANDLING THE REHABILITATION OF TWO MAJOR FEDERAL ROADS IN ABIA STATE TO RETURN TO SITE IMMEDIATELY.(PHOTO).

Governor Otti's administration has requested the Federal Ministry of Works to map out a strategy that will compel the contractors handling the rehabilitation of two major federal roads in Abia state to return to site immediately.

This comes as the motorists and commuters plying the roads have made passionate pleas to both the Federal and Abia State governments to ensure the completion of the road projects before the rainy season, describing the level of dilapidation of roads as horrific.

The roads are the 16.3km Aba – Owerri Road – NNPC Depot Way, and the 20.7km Achingali-Obizi Umunwanwa Road, both which connect Abia and Imo States through Isiala Ngwa South and Umuahia South LGAs.

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State who made the call while meeting with Chief Tony Chukwu, the chief executive of Roudo Nigeria Ltd and Boliv Nigeria Ltd, the two firms handling the projects to find out the level of work going on, said that the Federal Government should, through the Ministry of Works, ensure that the two projects are completed before the rainy season starts.

He explained that the completion of the projects would bring to an end the difficulties being encountered by the residents and citizens of the state while using the collapsed portion.

During the meeting, the companies presented their challenges through the Group Managing Director, Mr C.N.C. Nwachukwu, informing the governor that the delay in completing the roads was caused by poor funding.

The governor, who acknowledged that fact, promised to facilitate a meeting between the Federal Ministry of Works and the contractors to resolve the issues.

While giving details of the projects, the firms GMD insisted the companies believed that the projects can be completed before the rainy season sets in, adding that they (the companies) would finish the jobs if funds are made available.

In his vote of thanks, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, thanked Governor Otti for always rising up to address the plights of his people by providing bailouts whenever the welfare of Abians and residents of the state are at stake.
