Trump issues pardon to former Republican congressman Stephen Buyer after insider trading conviction    President Donald Trump has issued a full pardon to former Republican congressman Stephen Buyer, who served nearly two years in prison after being convicted of insider trading tied to post-congressional consulting work. Buyer was sentenced in 2023 to 22 months in prison for illegal stock trades made while working as a consultant and lobbyist. He was ordered to forfeit more than $350,000 in ill-gotten gains and pay a $10,000 fine. He was released from custody in 2025 after his conviction was upheld, with the Supreme Court declining to take up his appeal earlier this year.  "I received the sad news of the passing of the Aholu of Badagry and Permanent Vice Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, Aholu Babatunde Akran, Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I, who joined his ancestors at the age of 89.


For nearly 49 years on the throne, he served with wisdom, humility, and deep commitment to his people. He was a former journalist who brought clarity and balance into his leadership as a traditional ruler, always working to preserve Badagry’s culture while also encouraging development.


He united his people, promoted Badagry’s history and festivals, and gave his time selflessly to the growth of his community.


I extend my heartfelt condolences to the royal family, the people of Badagry, and all who were close to him. I pray that God grants them the strength to bear this great loss, and that the soul of Aholu Babatunde Akran rests in perfect peace".
