Yemen fighting pushes nearly 3,000 to Djibouti in less than a week: UN    Nearly 3,000 people have fled Yemen for Djibouti in less than a week as escalating violence drives growing displacement within the country and across its borders, the UN refugee agency said Friday. “Refugees continue to arrive by boat through Obock, Khor Angar, Moulhoule and Godoria after difficult journeys in small vessels,” UNHCR representative in Djibouti Sandrine Desamours told reporters in Geneva, Anadolu Agency reported. More than half of those crossing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait are women and children, while some families have been displaced for a second time after previously fleeing Yemen during the 2015 crisis and later returning. UNHCR is preparing for at least 10,000 new arrivals but warned that capacity is rapidly diminishing.  "I received the sad news of the passing of the Aholu of Badagry and Permanent Vice Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, Aholu Babatunde Akran, Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I, who joined his ancestors at the age of 89.


For nearly 49 years on the throne, he served with wisdom, humility, and deep commitment to his people. He was a former journalist who brought clarity and balance into his leadership as a traditional ruler, always working to preserve Badagry’s culture while also encouraging development.


He united his people, promoted Badagry’s history and festivals, and gave his time selflessly to the growth of his community.


I extend my heartfelt condolences to the royal family, the people of Badagry, and all who were close to him. I pray that God grants them the strength to bear this great loss, and that the soul of Aholu Babatunde Akran rests in perfect peace".
