 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  GUNMEN STRIKE IWANEV COMMUNITY, TWO KILLED, THREE ABDUCTED IN BENUE

A security alert has been raised following a deadly overnight attack on Iwanev community at Ugbema Junction in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State.


Reports from the area indicate that a group of unidentified gunmen stormed the community under the cover of darkness, killing two residents and abducting three others to an unknown destination.


The incident has thrown the community into fear, with residents calling for urgent intervention to prevent further attacks.


Community sources appealed to the Benue State Government, under the leadership of Governor Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, and the Chairman of Buruku Local Government Area, Hon. Raymond Zege Aondoakura, to take immediate and decisive action to restore security and safeguard lives and property in the area.


Residents urged security agencies to intensify patrols and investigations to track down the perpetrators and secure the release of those abducted.
