STATEHOUSE PRESS STATEMENT PRESIDENT TINUBU'S MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCE TO CHIMAMANDA ADICHIE AND HER FAMILY   With a deep sense of grief, I condole with Ms Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, and the entire family on the passing of their son, Nkanu Nnamdi.   As a parent myself who has suffered the loss of a loved one, no grief is as devastating as losing a child.   I empathise with the family at this difficult time, and I mourn this sad loss with them.   Ms Adichie is a literary icon who has brought joy and light to many homes globally, and I pray she and her family find strength in the Almighty in this trying hour.   My prayers are with the family.   Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Federal Republic of Nigeria January 8, 2026

Igwe Idigo Holds 126th Ovala Aguleri Festival

The one hundred and twenty-sixth Ovala Aguleri Festival has once again accorded Ndi Aguleri, Ndi Igbo in general, and non-Nigerians alike the opportunity to witness the ancient Aguleri culture and traditions at their peak.

The annual Ovala Aguleri fiesta, which holds every first Saturday of the year, as usual, began with a pontifical Holy Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Cathedral, Aguleri, officiated by the Bishop of the Diocese, Most Reverend Dennis Isizoh.

At the Amaigwe Square, where the main Ovala fiesta took place, activities marking the event began with the appearance of maidens of chastity known as Ndi Mkpowaogbo, followed by Ndi Amanwulu, after which the wife of the traditional ruler of Aguleri, Mrs. Mediatrix Idigo, entered the arena to welcome Ndi Aguleri and their visitors as she was flanked by royal daughters of the Idigo dynasty, Inyom na Umuada Umuala, wives of Aguleri cabinet chiefs, as well as Ndi Iyom Aguleri, as they danced to Igba Okanga Aguleri tunes.

This paved the way for the first outing of the paramount ruler and custodian of Aguleri culture, Igwe Michael Idigo, and members of his cabinet.

In his Ovala address, Igwe Idigo explained that he themed the one hundred and twenty-sixth Ovala “Ovala Uwa Ovu” because of the dynamic changes in information technology with the advent of artificial intelligence, advising Aguleri youths to engage themselves meaningfully by gaining knowledge about AI, acquiring education, or learning skills to better their future and that of their community.

Igwe Idigo said that he has always maintained peace between the community and neighbouring communities around Aguleri, noting that no society can progress in a chaotic situation, and urged his subjects to always support initiatives that would promote peace.

The Commissioner for Culture, Tourism, and Entertainment, Comrade Don Onyenji, who also graced the occasion, noted that Anambra State is blessed with rich culture and traditions which usually come alive mainly during the Christmas season, explaining that this was why Governor Chukwuma Soludo introduced Onwadezemba with numerous activities, including Igba Mmanwu, and congratulated Igwe Idigo on a successful outing.
