The credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voters’ register has come under intense scrutiny ahead of the 2027 general elections, following revelations by INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan that names of deceased persons remain on the register. Amupitan disclosed that names of voters who died as far back as 15 years ago are still listed, a situation critics say could undermine the integrity of the 2027 polls and lead to significant financial waste through the printing of excess ballot papers and other election logistics. The INEC chairman made the revelation while receiving the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abisoye Coker-Odusote, and her management team during a courtesy visit in Abuja on Wednesday.  Kaduna State Government Launches “Operation Tsapta” To Boost Environmental Sanitation

The Kaduna State Government has launched Operation Tsapta, a statewide environmental sanitation initiative aimed at improving cleanliness, public health, and environmental sustainability across the state.

The programme was unveiled on Wednesday at the Murtala Muhammed Square, Kaduna, under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani.

It is being jointly implemented by the Ministry of Local Government Affairs, headed by Hon. Sadiq Mamman Lagos, and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.

According to officials, Operation Tsapta is designed to strengthen waste management systems, improve hygiene standards, and restore environmental order, particularly within the Kaduna metropolis.

The initiative aligns with the state government’s commitment to enhancing urban aesthetics, protecting public health, and creating a safer and more livable environment for residents.

As part of the programme, the government also introduced a Monthly Statewide Sanitation Exercise, scheduled to hold on the last Saturday of every month.

The exercise is expected to mobilise communities, institutions, and businesses across Kaduna State to actively participate in environmental cleaning and maintenance activities.

Government officials said the initiative would help reduce flooding, environmental pollution, and the spread of sanitation-related diseases, which are often linked to poor waste disposal practices.

They stressed that environmental cleanliness is a shared civic responsibility and urged residents to support the programme by participating fully in the monthly sanitation exercise and adopting responsible waste management habits.

With the launch of Operation Tsapta, the Kaduna State Government reaffirmed its commitment to building a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient state.
