Trump issues pardon to former Republican congressman Stephen Buyer after insider trading conviction    President Donald Trump has issued a full pardon to former Republican congressman Stephen Buyer, who served nearly two years in prison after being convicted of insider trading tied to post-congressional consulting work. Buyer was sentenced in 2023 to 22 months in prison for illegal stock trades made while working as a consultant and lobbyist. He was ordered to forfeit more than $350,000 in ill-gotten gains and pay a $10,000 fine. Nobel Institute declines Machado’s peace prize nomination for Trump

President Trump has been praised by the White House as deserving the Nobel Peace Prize “many times over” after organizers of the award clarified that Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado cannot transfer her prize to him. The Norwegian Nobel Committee and the Norwegian Nobel Institute emphasized that once a Nobel Prize is awarded, it cannot be revoked, shared, or reassigned.

Machado, who is scheduled to meet with Trump in Washington, D.C., later this week, had previously expressed a desire to give her Nobel to the former president after commending the U.S. raid in Caracas that captured Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro. Trump, who campaigned for the Nobel before it was awarded to Machado last year, said receiving the prize from her would be “a great honor.” White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said Trump’s legacy as “Peacemaker-in-Chief” is already established, highlighting his role in resolving conflicts and leveraging U.S. influence to bring peace to long-standing international disputes. Kelly added that Trump prioritizes saving lives over receiving recognition.
