 NDLEA dismantles Abuja drug bunks, arrests 132, recovers 220kg illicit substances  -Marwa hails operation, vows to sustain crackdown in FCT, other states  In a non-stop two-week offensive action against traffickers and dealers, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully dismantled several drug joints and bunks within and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja where a total of 132 suspects were arrested and 220 kilograms of assorted illicit substances recovered. The wel-coordinated raids jointly conducted by the Agency's Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) and the FCT Strategic Command from llth to 25th April 2026 were launched to dismantle illicit drug hubs contributing to substance abuse, trafficking, and associated criminal activities in the capital city after weeks of intelligence and surveillance across all identified hotspots. ONITSHA MAIN MARKET LEADERS DECIDED TO OPT FOR THE SECOND OPTION WHICH IS TO REMODEL THE MARKET, BUT PLEADED WITH GOVERNOR SOLUDO THAT THEY BE GIVEN SOME TIME TO REMOVE THEIR GOODS FROM PLACES WITH ILLEGAL STRUCTURES. (PHOTO).


 Onitsha Main Market Leaders decided to opt for the second option which is to remodel the market, but pleaded with Governor Soludo that they be given some time to remove their goods from places with illegal structures


Rising from a dialogue at the Light House, Awka, with traders in the market and adjoining markets, Governor Soludo and the traders agreed to commence immediate reinvigoration of the market hence Anambra state government will begin phased remodeling of the Onitsha main market.


Chairman of Onitsha Main Market, Chijioke Okpalugo had earlier told the Governor that they decided to opt for the second option which is to remodel the market, but pleaded that they be given some time to remove their goods from places with illegal structures.


The Governor who stressed that sometimes, leadership is about taking some of the inconvenient steps, to be able to secure the future, pointed out that as a matter of emergency.


The Onitsha main market parks will be reclaimed, walkways brought in, public conveniences erected, repainting and colour coding of shops and lines, among others, stating that it is in his manifesto to have planned and sustainable markets, communities and markets.
