The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the kidnapping of veteran photojournalist, Umar Usman, in Chikun Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Kaduna, noting that security operatives have begun efforts to rescue the victim.
According to Hassan, Usman was abducted around 9:00 p.m. on Monday by suspected bandits at Danhonu II community in Millennium City, an incident that has heightened fear among residents.
“We are doing everything possible to ensure his safe rescue,” the police spokesperson said.
Usman, a retired staff member of Africa Independent Television, Kaduna Station, and a former employee of the Nigerian Television Authority in Kaduna, was reportedly taken from his residence during the attack.
Hassan added that the Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, promptly deployed a team of operatives to track down the kidnappers and secure the journalist’s release.
He also urged members of the public to provide credible information that could assist the ongoing rescue operation.
