A LIMPOPO MAN WHO STABBED HIS GIRLFRIEND TO DEATH IN FRONT OF HIS OWN MOTHER WILL SPEND THE NEXT 20 YEARS IN PRISON.(PHOTO).

 A Limpopo man who stabbed his girlfriend to death in front of his own mother will spend the next 20 years in prison. The Polokwane High Court sentenced 48 year old Nathaniel Molatelo Mokgehle from Sekonye Village in the Botlokwa policing area for the murder of his girlfriend, 41 year old Mokgadi Julia Mohlaela. The court heard he chased her out of the house and continued stabbing her until she collapsed and died. Mokgehle also received six months for malicious damage to property. The sentence will run at the same time as the 20 year murder sentence. Evidence presented in court showed the victim had previously opened a malicious damage to property case against him. He was still attending court for that case when the murder happened. The attack happened on 08 June 2025 around 16:00 at his mother’s home in Sekonye Village.  RE: GNI HOUSE FIRE


The Lagos State Government has taken note of  speculations and assertions concerning the 25-storey Great Nigeria Insurance House (GNI) on Martins Street, Lagos Island, following the Christmas Eve fire. 


The Government wishes to, once again, sympathize with all those who have lost their loved ones in this unfortunate incident. May The Almighty give them the strength to go through this tough time. We feel their pains and understand their anxiety.


As soon as the fire alarm was received, the Government deployed teams of first responders, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS), security agencies, and other emergency and safety units. These teams have remained on the site, conducting systematic search, rescue, and safety operations - in line with internationally accepted emergency response protocols. They will remain there and continue to work until the completion of recovery operations supported by thorough and forensic assessments. 


As of this morning, the total number of victims are:


•⁠  ⁠8 males (including a fireman)rescued with various degrees of injuries and taken to hospital

•⁠  ⁠⁠3 males and 2 females who had minor minor injuries, administered first aid and thereafter released at the scene. 

•⁠  ⁠⁠1 adult female extricated dead from the rubble 

•⁠  ⁠⁠2 adult males extricated

•⁠  ⁠⁠3 persons burnt 


The Government appeals to the public, affected families, and all stakeholders to exercise patience, restraint, and sensitivity, and to refrain from spreading speculations that could heighten public anxiety or undermine ongoing operations.

The Lagos State Government remains fully committed to the safety of all and professional handling of this tragic incident.
