Two Zimbabwean Nationals Arrested for Illegal Firearm Possession and Immigration Offences

Police in Mahwelereng have arrested two Zimbabwean nationals for possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, and contravening the Immigration Act.

According to police, a 34-year-old foreign male suspect was arrested on Tuesday, 27 January 2026, following information received about a person allegedly in possession of a firearm and ammunition at Extension 71, outside Polokwane. An intelligence-driven operation was conducted, leading officers to an identified house in the area.

During a search of the premises, police recovered a firearm and ammunition. The suspect failed to produce a valid licence to possess the firearm and was immediately arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Further investigations revealed that the suspect was also in the country illegally, resulting in an additional charge of contravening the Immigration Act.

In a continued operation, police also arrested a second suspect, a 31-year-old foreign male, at a rental residence for being in the country illegally.

Both Zimbabwean nationals are expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court soon.
