Ukraine describes trilateral talks with US and Russia aimed at ending war as 'constructive'
Ukrainian officials described the recent trilateral talks with the U.S. and Russia in Abu Dhabi as “positive” and “constructive,” highlighting a new phase in efforts to negotiate an end to the war. The discussions focused on key sticking points, particularly territorial control in eastern Ukraine, as U.S. mediators sought to narrow differences between the sides.
The meetings came amid another wave of Russian attacks, with Kyiv and other cities targeted overnight by 370 drones and 21 missiles, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He emphasized the need to fully implement prior agreements on air defense. The talks began on Friday and continued through Saturday, featuring both joint sessions with U.S. mediators present and direct discussions between Russian and Ukrainian representatives. The U.S. delegation included advisers to President Trump, as well as military officials, while Ukraine’s team featured top political and military leaders. Russia was represented by Admiral Igor Kostyukov, head of Russian military intelligence. The meetings were hosted by UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, who has previously mediated prisoner exchanges between Russia and Ukraine. Ukrainian officials said another round of talks could take place as early as next week to continue discussions on ending the conflict.
