 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken.  Umueri Villagers, Ogbunike, Protest Alleged Land Sales and Operation Udogachi brutality, Seek Gov. Soludo’s Intervention


The people of Umueri Village, Ogbunike, in Oyi Local Government Area, have staged a peaceful protest, calling on the Anambra State Government to intervene in the recent crisis allegedly caused by the sale of their communal land and the brutalisation of villagers by a former chairman, Mr. Levi Elobisi, his supporters, and the village security.


During the protest, the people were since with placards with inscriptions like Our Land is not for sale", "Umueri Village Ogbunike Passes Vote of  No Confidence on LEVI ELOBISI", "Stop Udo-Ga-Achi Brutality In Umueri Ogbunike", "We Demand Justice Now!", among others, all demanding for the intervention of the state government in the land issue and brutalization of one Mr Ebuka and others by officers of the village Udo-Ga-Achi outfit on the directive of the former Chairman, Mr Elobisi .


Speaking to ABS during the protest, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Umueri Village Welfare Association, Mr. Ikenna Onyekwuluje, while explaining that Mr. Elobisi served as Umueri village chairman until December 30, 2025, when the community passed a vote of no confidence on him and removed him from office, said the former chairman allegedly turned his office into an avenue for intimidation and illegal sale of communal lands, including the recent alleged sale of over two hundred plots, insisting that Umueri land is not for sale.


Some elders of the village, including Oba Eche Ezennia and Mr. Ebodinma Okaide, said such an incident is unusual in the history of the village and appealed to the state government to intervene urgently to prevent breakdown of law and order.


some alleged victims of the crisis, including a widow, Mrs. Justina Chidebelu, who claimed that her late husband’s land was sold and she was beaten, and an elderly woman, Mrs. Virginia Elobisi, whose children were arrested yesterday, appealed to government and well-meaning Nigerians to help them recover their land and secure the release of their children.
