Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are now officially divorced, bringing an end to their 19-year marriage after a Tennessee judge approved the dissolution this week. A judge in Nashville signed off on the divorce during a hearing, ruling that the couple’s agreements on asset division and child custody were sufficient and legally sound. The court filing cited irreconcilable differences, stating that continuing the marriage was no longer practical. Neither Kidman nor Urban appeared at the hearing, and both had waived their right to attend. Kidman filed for divorce in September, and all major legal matters — including finances and custody — were resolved at the time of filing, allowing the process to move forward once Tennessee’s required 90-day waiting period for couples with minor children expired.
The former couple, both 58, share two teenage daughters, with Kidman designated as the primary residential parent under their parenting plan. The agreement indicates the children are expected to continue living in Nashville, where they were raised, and specifies that neither Kidman nor Urban will receive child support or spousal support. Their joint assets were divided roughly equally. Kidman and Urban met in Los Angeles in 2005 and married in Sydney the following year, becoming one of the entertainment industry’s most visible couples, frequently appearing together at film premieres and major music events. While they had occasionally spoken publicly about working through challenges in their marriage, the divorce came as a surprise to many. The marriage was Urban’s first and Kidman’s second; she was previously married to Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001 and shares two adult children with him.
