 AU Commission Chairperson Arrives in Bamako to Revive Dialogue With Mali Mahmoud Ali Youssouf arrived for a two-day official visit, according to an AU statement. He was welcomed by Mali’s Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop and is also expected to meet with President Assimi Goïta, it said, Sputnik reported. The visit comes as Mali remains suspended from AU activities since June 2021. The AU has reaffirmed its support for Mali’s sovereignty and territorial integrity while proposing increased assistance to the security sector.

 23-YEAR-OLD KILLED IN BENUE OVER PALM FRUIT DISPUTE, SUSPECT FLEES

A 23-year-old man has died following a violent altercation with his neighbour over palm fruit harvesting in Benue State.


The incident occurred on February 16 at about 2:20 p.m. in Pass Brother Community, Guma Local Government Area.


According to sources, the deceased, identified as David Oraade, allegedly confronted a 30-year-old neighbour, Felix Cephas, accusing him of harvesting palm fruits from trees said to belong to his family.


The disagreement reportedly escalated into a physical fight during which the suspect allegedly inflicted serious injuries on the victim.


David was rushed to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital for medical treatment but was later pronounced dead.


His remains have been deposited at the hospital’s morgue.


Police sources say the suspect fled the scene shortly after the incident and is currently at large.


Authorities have launched a manhunt, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal clash are ongoing.
